I truly hate sticker ads defacing my newspapers. I recently wrote to many newspapers with a photo of their defaced paper suggesting them to do something about; I didn’t get even an acknowledgement! Here is the letter.
Dear Sir/Madam,
This is urgent information (with photos) on how your newspaper is being defaced by sticker ads in my area (JNU, South Delhi).
Please find attached herewith photos of newspapers (including yours) which have been badly defaced by a sticker ad of a liquor shop. I am a research scholar with JNU and thought you would be interested in these ads which are illegal and which spoil the look and feel of your paper. You can safely assume that it is happening to other newspapers too which I am presently not subscribing.
This liquor ad is being pasted on the cover page of the papers since quite some time and is an irritant. I just called them on their land line no. and almost lambasted them for full 59 seconds explaining how this might invite legal action against them. The person on the other end didn’t speak much and seemed worried at the drop of the word ‘legal.’ You may zoom the photo and note the address and phone nos. mentioned on the sticker. The newspapers are today’s (27 September 2008 ) and it is my bed in my hostel room.
Please do something about such ads which have really become common. I at least expect the Hindu to teach this shop a lesson; I have often seen legal notice published in the Hindu by their firm against such ads and insertions. In the photos here, the stickers are more near the headlines and title. Usually such sticker ads are mostly on the front page advertisement on the bottom right.
I love newspapers, hence the anger. You may ignore this mail if you are not concerned or if it is happening with your consent. You may ask me to save the copy of the newspapers if you will initiate legal action and I will be happy to help. My one month old archive of papers has more such instances. Please write if you’ll do the needful.
Thank you.
Yours truly,
Vikas

Thanks for giving then email addresses of editors
Gourav, Yes send them mails!
Wake up, man! Are you living in a fool’s paradise? Newspapers are businesses selling readers to advertisers: why bother about your paper being defaced, when it’s reality they deface?
Yeah Averroes, thanks for the insightful comment!
