Today is the 61st death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Today is also the anti-Leprosy day.
I came across this cool campaign to espouse non-violence: In Gandhi’s Shoes! It is a campaign to “let the father of the nation talk to his people once again.” Its inaugural event is in the JNU campus (Delhi) today near the SIS lawns and posters have been put up everywhere in the campus. You can read more about the campaign on afaqs too.
I found it a good concept. The multimedia homepage is quite appealing (though the website could have been better given the fact that Publicis India is its communication partner). Here you can send a quote to various belligerent who’s who such as George Bush, Osama, Raj Thackrey, Sunny Deol, L.K. Advani, Barkha Dutt, Andrew Symonds, Ramalinga Raju and the like. You can visit the event venue to ‘step into Gandhi’s shoes’, join the march on February 5, 2009 with ‘speech blurb shaped placard with a Gandhi quote’ and you can send a petition to her excellency the president of India to print Bapu’s message on currency notes. Go ahead and send a quote to Raj or Bush!
By the way, I sent this to Sunny Deol (my one-time favourite):
Whenever you are confronted by an opponent conquer him with love.
Needless to say, he will be rendered unemployed if he follows this! Few
people have the ability to kill enemies by making them friends! By the way, Abhay Deol is a wonderful Deol: not at all a chip off the old block!
In my schooldays, I used to mug up a lot of couplets, quotes etc. to spice up my essays (nibandh) to score more in exams. I recall a few lines from a kavita (poem) on Gandhiji (can’t recall the author, Dinkar?).
This is an excerpt from the Hindi poem on Mahatma Gandhi (Bapu):
P.S.: NDTV and Barkha Dutt recently supressed a blogger’s voice! Read about it on the IISc professor’s blog here and here and also on the Desipudit.
