Emotionally Speaking

From my archives; mid- 2004. I was happy about the probability that the country was going to  have a female PM . I was upset over the hullabaloo over her Italian origins. I don’t have any special liking for her or the Congress party; I just wanted a ‘woman’ at the helm.

So, I wrote this in mid-May, 2004 for catharsis. These Hindi poem/slogans on politicians remain unpublished and unknown. This has more to do with the praise of womanhood and the then social milieu. See it in that light and you’ll like  it even if you hate Sonia Gandhi/Congress.

Welcoming Sonia as PM

तिल का ताड़ बनाते हैं चिल्लाते विदेशी मूल
सफ़ेद चमडी देख इनके ह्रदय में चुभता शूल
या कहेंगे ‘नही है ग्रजुएट गई है सिर्फ़ स्कूल’
अरे मूर्ख देखो मामले को बेवज़ह देते तूल!

मर्दों के जब झूंड को ललकारती है इक नारी
तो भाग कोने में छुपे नेता हो या हो व्यापारी !
और जारी न हो जाए कहीं विज्ञप्ति ये सरकारी -
‘कि विदेश से आयात कर ली हाय हमने महामारी!’

चुनाव से पहले देखो चिल्लाती थी भाजपा सरकार -
कि’ कमल करेगा सपने साकार न कि इटली की खरपतवार’!
और बैठ सिंहासन पे देखो टपकाते थे इतनी लार
कि चिपचिपी हो जाती थी भारत कि भूमि बार-बार!

बस करो नहीं चाहिए मुझे ऐसा प्रधानमंत्री
जो आँखें खोल सोता है और बनता फिरता संतरी
हाथ में माला लिए बस करता ॐ ! हरि हरि !
समस्याएं सुलझाएंगी मानो आसमां से आ लाल परी!

मुझे यकीन है देश को बेहतर संभालेगी इक नारी
पुरूष तो अक्सर पड़े इस देश पे ही भारी !
तो लो आज में करता हूँ ये विज्ञप्ति जारी -
‘जो कर रहे हैं विरोध, उनकी गई है मति मारी!’

देखो भारत हो या इटली, मानव तो मानव है
और क्या गारंटी है कि अपना भारतीय नही दानव है ?!
‘पश्चिमी भाग में अभी दबे हजारों शव हैं
और कहते हो की भारतीय ही भारतीयों से करते लव हैं!’

अरे पगले ! वो सोनिया गाँधी है, नहीं इटली की मुसोलिनी
तू तो ऐसे भय खाता मनो तेरी आजादी छिनी
मुझे तो आने लगी है अभी से खुशबू भीनी भीनी
मुह मीठा कराओ जी, लाओ मिठाई गुड चीनी!

अंग्रेज मेरे देश को उतना न लूट पाये
जितना मेरे अपनो ने ही भारत पे जुल्म ढाए
निःसंकोच उसके हाथ में दूँगा देश की कमान
‘इटली हो या जापान, बस होना चाइये इंसान’!

Slogans on Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Ok! Now BJP’s turn. The party had conducted a slogan contest (the news was also published in the Hindu newspaper albeit with an incorrect phone no.).

Nobody knows what happened to that contest (BJP either forgot about it or kept mum!). I wrote a number of slogans, just the same. (I was a sucker for writing competitions!). Again keep the disclaimer in mind: I have no personal like/dislike for Atal ji or his party! He is presently indisposed and I wish him godspeed.

• राष्ट्र के जनहित में जारी –एक बार और अटल बिहारी! [i.e. issued in public interest!]

• एक बार और अटल को जोर
  क्यूंकि ये दिल मांगे मोरे!  [Á la Pepsi!]

• एक अरब को साथ लेकर
  चल रहा अटल ‘बारात’ लेकर
  बारात पहुँचेगी सुख के द्वार
  जो बनी इनकी सरकार! [:) lol! Atal aur Baraat!?]

• जोर लगा के हईसा
  अटल बिहारी जयिसा! [tug-of-war!]

• अटल में नही कोई खोट
  निश्चिंत हो के दे दो वोट! [Above board! uh-huh!]

• समस्याएं होंगी हल
  जो आएँगे अटल! [Atal: the cure-all wonder drug!]

• मुश्किलें की आसान सारी
  जुग जुग जियो अटल बिहारी! [wish him long life]

• अटल बिहारी, कल्याणकारी! [Need I say more!?]

• इच्छा है हम सब की सारी
  पुनः आयें अटल बिहारी! [Encore!]

• अटल जब जोर लगाएगा
  पत्थर पानी बन जाएगा!
  सोने की चिडिया होंगे हम
  वो दिन भी वापिस आएगा! [omg!]

• जगमगाता होगा आने वाला कल
  बागडोर जो थामेंगे अटल!
  एक वोट से करो पहल
  सच होगा सपनो का महल!

• नाविक अटल चला रहा भारत देश की नाव
  वोट अटल को देना है, देखो आ रहा चुनाव! [Don't rock his boat!]

• अटल ने किया है आह्वान,
  समृद्ध भारत का करे निर्माण!
