The Delhi Cyclothon was held on Sunday 9 October 2011 near the Jantar Mantar. Organised by the Indian Cycling Federation and sponsored by the Hero Cycles, it was a poorly organised event.
First, the goodie bag they gave for the event (registration fee was 300 Rupees) had an abysmal helmet for the ride. Helmet was mandatory and it was a very poorly built helmet (plastic item with very weak straps). The amateur ride (20kms) was cut short to 10 kms because of they started it late (almost 9 am!) and the traffic was opened by the police at about 10 am! The event had all the glamour and organisation needed but they erred on the management aspect. You can even read criticism of it in comments on the Times of India news piece or on the facebook page of India Cyclothon. It could have been really better ; shame be on Hero cycles and the Cycling federation (they don’t even reply to mails).
